Martin and Deidre Bobgan
Martin Bobgan holds four university degrees, including a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Colorado and heads PsychoHeresy Awareness Ministries. Deidre Bobgan holds an M.A. degree in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is a member of the honorary academic society Phi Beta Kappa. Together they have coauthored twenty-five books, some published by Bethany House, Moody Press, and Harvest House. Deidre has also written The Beauty of the Disciplined Life by Grace through Faith. God has further blessed them with four children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Martin’s doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Colorado qualified him for the Clinical Psychologist license in California, for which he never applied. After reviewing the many often conflicting theories and therapies along with their often contradictory techniques, they realized the whole business of psychotherapy was a hoax and were alarmed to see it coming into the church.

Dear Co-Laborers in Christ,
Over the years we have watched or read over fifty biblical counseling sessions by leaders of the biblical counseling movement (BCM). They all reveal how sinfully biblical counseling is conducted. We recently watched 345 minutes of a 9-session series on domestic abuse. The sessions are play-acted to present a domestic abusing husband and a victim wife. The Institute for Biblical Counseling and Discipleship (IBCD) produced these nine sessions totaling five hours and 45 minutes. These counseling sessions that have been recorded and made available to be viewed are presented to show how ideal biblical counseling should be done. Even though these sessions are not scripted, those who act the parts of counselors and counselees portray how they believe biblical counseling should be done. Since all are experienced “biblical” counselors, they know what to say and how to respond and how to react in order to present ideal counseling sessions.
As we mention in our current newsletter, the format for the modern-day biblical counseling movement was established by Dr. Jay Adams who learned the psychological pattern from an atheist psychologist. We repeatedly say that the rock upon which Adams’ gold standard stands is that of transparency. A transparent object is one that can be seen through. Metaphorically speaking, transparency in counseling means being personally open about oneself and one’s life so that the counselor can try to figure out how to help. Transparency may sound good, but no one is truly transparent in counseling and, worse yet, this openness results in sinful conversations in the counseling office as stories are told and enlarged by questions asked.
Both the counselee and the counselor are guilty of violating Scripture. Both the counselor and the counselee come into the conversation expecting that the counselee will transparently reveal the sins he perceives are committed by others. Then the counselor will typically seek for details and descriptions to determine how the sins of others have contributed to the counselee’s problems. Thus the means of help ends up being a sinful conversation as the result of expectations and excursions into areas that are prohibited in Scripture. The worst counseling done by both psychological and biblical counselors is marriage counseling. The difference between the two is that psychotherapists are more honest about their failures than the biblical counselors.
We are thankful for all who understand what is “Hidden in Plain Sight” about psychological counseling and the biblical counseling conducted in Christian circles and who support our efforts to expose this travesty on the very words of the Bible.
Contending for the Faith,
Martin and Deidre Bobgan
